19.08.2015: Call to the competent authorities – Women’s Civic Initiative ANTIKO

CALL

TO COMPETENT AUTHORITIES, MEDIA,

CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND CITIZENS:

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO HEALTH CARE AND DIGNIFIED LIFE!

Part of the media yesterday, 18.08.2015, actualized the story about the harsh life of 52 year old woman from Tetovo, Nina Dimu. Nina Dimu for 15 years is virtually homeless, with an extremely difficult health conditions, which due to malnutrition and lack of adequate health care, is constantly worsening. Dimu lives alone and is under social care, and her health has significantly worsened in 2013 when she suffered a car accident. Until now, she was left at the mercy of her neighbors who took care of her until the day she fell into unconsciousness and their care is no longer sufficient. She is left completely alone in miserable and terrible non-ethnic conditions to fight for her life.

This case represents a blatant violation of basic human rights to health care which is constitutionally guaranteed for the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia.

Therefore, we urge all competent institutions in the country to take urgent measures and to provide health protection and conditions for dignified and safe life of this unfortunate woman, because with such behavior, her right to social and health protection, which is guaranteed to all the citizens by the state, has been violated.

At the same time, we call for and seek the support of all civil society organizations, media and citizens to join the action to protect this woman and all other citizens in such situation.

REQUEST TO THE COMPETENT INSTITUTIONS:

1. URGENT CARE FOR NINA DIMU IN AN APPROPRIATE HEALTH INSTITUTION WHERE SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE NEEDED HEALTH CARE.

2. EFFICIENCY OF THE SOCIAL SERVICES IN TAKING THE URGENT MEASURES TO ACCOMMODATE NINA DIMU IN AN APPROPRIATE INSTITUTION WHERE BASIC AND DIGNIFIED LIVING CONDITIONS WILL BE PROVIDED.

Sincerely,

Women’s Civic Initiative ANTIKO
