11/16/2013: International Conference “How the women’s movement affect state policy”

Autonomous Women Centre on 11th and 12th  November organized an international conference titled “How the women’s movement affect state policy.” The conference was held in the main hall of the Chamber of Commerce in Belgrade, Serbia. Invited were representatives of 27 women’s NGOs in the region (Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia) and Austria. These organizations are partners in joint project supported by the European Union  aimed at promoting the benefits of the Istanbul Convention. National Network as a partner organization was invited and attended the conference.

Besides panel sessions dedicated to the situation of women’s non-governmental organizations in the region and opportunities for their improved functioning, discussed were issues related to violence against women including: “Establishing sustainable services run by women’s organizations – experiences globally”, “Violence against women and the state’s response. “

On the conference campaign “I sign” was launched. Campaign will be conveyed next year in six countries – partners in the project. Official website of the campaign is http://potpisuvam.org/

Further more, on November 10th, Autonomus Women Centre in the Parliament of Serbia  organized a one day conference dedicated to the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
