04.12.2017: Press Release: Opened Intervention Women’s Fund

National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence opened the first fund for financial support of women victims of violence who want to leave the violent environment – Intervention Women’s Fund. The opening and the promotion of the Fund is within the global campaign 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women.

The idea of such a fund has existed for a long time, especially taking into account the fact that many women victims do not report the violence and do not leave the violent relationship because of the economic situation and their insufficient financial ability to cover all the costs. The decision to open the Fund came after the donation made by the previous Mayor of the City of Skopje, Andrej Zhernovski, who for the occasion of the 8th of March 2017 made the decision to donate 90.000 denars to National Network instead of having a Woman’s Day celebration. This donation was the first donation to the Fund.

The fund will be aimed at helping women who are victims of violence and who want to leave the violent environment. The initial support will be for the provision of medical documentation, specialists’ reports, lawyer’s services until the moment of free legal assistance, and other urgent measures to support the woman to leave the violent relationship.

National Network has developed criteria and has defined the process for the allocation of funds. One of the basic criteria is for a woman to be ready to leave the violent environment.

To fill the Fund, besides the call to the local self-government and the private companies, National Network invites all natural persons who want to help women victims of violence, to donate:
