25.10.2017: Conference “Intentional killing of females because they are females”

On October 25, 2017, at hotel Porta – Skopje, conference “Femicides – intentional killing of females because they are females” took place, organized by National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, in cooperation with UN.

Keynote speaker at the conference was Ms. Shalva Weil, professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and renowned researcher and speaker on the topic of violence against women and killing of women – femicides. She is advocating to make femicides be treated as a sociological fact to which attention is to be paid to overcome the challenges in its research and study.

Other speakers at the conference included Luisa Vinton, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative; Virve Vimpari from the EU Delegation; Svetlana Cvetkovska from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy; Elena Dimushevska, executive director of National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence; Silva Pesic, Human Rights Adviser at the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator; and Biljana Chavkovska, member of Femicide across Europe Network.
