22.12.2016: Promotion of “Report on monitoring of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence”

On 22. December in Hotel Porta, promotion of the “Report on the monitoring of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence” took place, organized by National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

The aim of this analysis was to provide information on how much the current implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence succeeds in achieving the purpose for which it is adopted, which arises from the very title of the law – prevention and protection against domestic violence. The need for such an analysis arises primarily from the fact that it is a Law that was promoted as a novelty in the system of protection from domestic violence and which was supposed to provide effective protection of the victims, but also to guarantee coordinated actions of the institutions. The large number of cases in which the institutions failed to provide protection, which were published by the media and the NGOs working in the area of domestic violence, also stresses the need for analysis of the functioning of the law so far.

At the promotion of the Report on the monitoring of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence, also presented were: methodology for monitoring of the findings from the monitoring of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence, as well as the recommendations for improvement of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence, by Elena Dimushevska and Neda Chalovska.

The Report on the monitoring of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence (in Macedonian) can be found here.

The event is part of the activities in the frame of the project “Preventing violence against women in accordance with EU standards” whose purpose is establishing effective legal framework and system of protection and support of women from all forms of violence in accordance with the CoE Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention), funded by Kvinna Till Kvinna.
