The femicide, one of the most extreme form of violence against women and girls and most often a consequence of continuous long-term domestic or intimate-partner violence, is unfortunately very much present in the pores of our family communities and the social system in general.
The alarming case of the murder of a young woman yesterday in Skopje by her partner is the second case of femicide in less than 2 weeks, which points to the absolute and urgent need for systemic mobilization of all available national and local resources and capacities for prevention of and combating gender-based violence in all its forms.
We are calling upon the Ministry of Interior, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy to urgently resolve these cases and initiate appropriate procedures against the perpetrators. The National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence has been continually warning about the increased risk of domestic and intimate-partner violence in the state of emergency and calling for urgent action in cases of violence against women and children by competent institutions. We are expecting criminal charges and prosecution of the perpetrator in compliance with the laws and the Istanbul Convention.
