05/10/2012: Working group for drafting the new National Strategy for Prevention and Protection of Domestic Violence 2012 – 2015

On 09.05 2012 the second meeting of the Working Group for the drafting of the National Strategy for Prevention and Protection of Domestic Violence 2012 – 2015, was held. At the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Labor And Social Policy, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education And Science, Ministry of Justice, The General Secretariat of Republic of Macedonia, representatives of the agencies of the United Nations, and two representatives of the Network were present.

At the beginning of the meeting, the results and the analysis of the conditions from the last three years achieved with the previous Strategy were presented, after which, the drafting of the strategic objective of the new Strategy was next on the Agenda. The importance of a greater involvement of the civil society was emphasized in the implementation of the activities under the new Strategy by providing direct services to the victims of domestic violence. The process was supported by the elected national consultant for the drafting of the new Strategy of domestic violence, Prof. Stojanka Mircheva.

By the end of the month, a two day meeting will be organized to finalize the new Strategy on Prevention and Protection of Domestic Violence 2012 – 2015.

In order to promote the direct services provided to victims of domestic violence, the Network will organize three meetings with focus groups in Skopje, Sveti Nikole and Tetovo, on which victims of domestic violence, which have, in the past used some of the provided services, will participate. Recommendations regarding the deficiencies in the provision of the direct services are expected to be delivered.

The National Strategy on Prevention and Protection of Domestic Violence is expected to be adopted by the end of June 2012.
