02.10.2017: Regional meeting with candidates for mayors in Polog region

On 2.October 2017, in hotel Lirak – Tetovo, regional meeting took place with candidates for mayors and heads of council lists in the Polog region, organized by National Network to End Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and Association of single-parent families “One Can”.

The purpose of the meeting was presenting the need for taking concrete measures at local level for obtaining financial means from the local self-government to promote the access to services for women and children victims of violence. For that purpose, Public commitment for the advancement of the protection of women and children victims of various forms of violence, including domestic violence was prepared, that the candidates for mayors were invited to sign.

The public commitment of the candidates for mayors that they will pay due attention to this problem that concerns half of the population in the municipalities (women) is a significant step towards promoting the systemic protection of women and girls from all types of violence.

Out of 44 candidates in 9 municipalities in the Polog region, the Public Commitment was signed by 11 candidates for mayors.

  • Stojan Todoroski (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Brvenica
  • Dafina Stojanoska (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Gostivar
  • Arben Taravari (Alliance for Albanians) – Municipality Gostivar
  • Fatmir Izairi (DUI) – Municipality Zhelino
  • Toni Koceski (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Jegunovce
  • Alim Bilali (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Mavrovo and Rostushe
  • Medat Kurtovski (Coalition led by SDSM) – Municipality Mavrovo and Rostushe
  • Vojo Gogovski (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Tearce
  • Goran Manojloski (Coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE) – Municipality Tetovo
  • Teuta Arifi (DUI) – Municipality Tetovo
  • Atnan Neziri (Alliance of Albanians) – Municipality Tetovo

Before the meeting, Public Request and Draft Policy were sent to all the candidates for mayors. All candidates and heads of lists were informed about the meeting in timely manner, through the media, by e-mail and through the contact persons from their political parties.
